The Adventures of a Friendly French-American ExMormon Atheist Mom Living in Switzerland!!!
"we don't swear in class" - OMFG. The girl didn't swear! I would have spent the entire class looking at picture #2 as well.:)
Hey Sideon!!!Yeah, but haven't you ever run into this weird confusion over whether the word "swearing" means swearing an oath or saying naughty words? Also, it's true that one of the hieroglyphs in facsimile #2 of the Book of Abraham represents a penis, but that it's not clear enough to just guess that's what it is. I learned about it by reading a book (I think published by FARMS) that listed all of the glyphs used in all three facsimles (and their interpretations). A lot of exmos would read a book like that and give you a scholarly analysis -- I stick with disseminating the important facts I learned from it... ;^)
That is a very special hieroglyph! Maybe Smith intended it as symbolic of the need for members to stand firm in rapt attention to the gospel, building upon the rock-hard foundation of their faith.Ah, the swearing thing. I have had it on my backburner for a long time to dissect the whole thing about "swearing," "cursing," and "vulgar language." It's all rather very interesting to me, and totally unsustainable logically.Anyway, thanks for extracting and sharing that important fact!
And let's not even talk about spreading seed of faith...
Hey Gluby!!!Sadly for Joseph Smith, he probably didn't recognize what the symbol was when he was copying it...
You're probably right -- he was probably too busy erecting the church.Well, one thing's for sure. He has certainly screwed us all with it!While I think Freud protests a little too much with regard to the rest of the world, I think fellows like Smith give his theories a new lease on life.
