The Day I Sang about the “Latter-Day Glory” with the C of C and with the Polygamists

I finally got around to telling the tale of the time I visited a Mormon Fundamentalist (polygamist) church service this past Summer!! It's up on Main Street Plaza, have a look: The Day I Sang about the “Latter-Day Glory” with the C of C and with the Polygamists.

Very, very interesting! While I'm headed in more of an atheist direction with my believe (or lack thereof), my sweet wife is still trying to find her bearings. I'm wondering is a visit with the CoC might not be a good idea for her to give her some perspective...

Thanks for sharing!

Think I'll skip this one. I accidentally dated a polygamist guy, back in my twenties.

Hey Urban Koda!!!

If your wife still dealing with your faith transition (and figuring out what to do herself), then I would definitely recommend a visit to the C of C. If nothing else, it gives you interesting added perspective about the LDS/Restoration tradition. As I said, it's an eye-opener just to realize that there exist other versions of this tradition.

Hey Xuxana!!!

That must have been interesting! Was he single, or was he hoping to add you to an existing harem?

My wife is about where I was 3 years ago... She sees the corruption and problems with the current organization, and she's heard most of the claims refuting the version of the history being taught. Now she's in "Trying to find out the truth" mode. She's also worried about getting caught up in another religion which has it's own set of problems, but like you said, perhaps a different perspective on the tradition would be helpful. Her other concern is about disappointing family members, which after my folks stumbled onto my blog, ceased to be an issue for me!!

p.s. What happened to your USA in UK blog? I was following it, and then all of the sudden it was replaced by some debt consolidation spam blog...

Hey Urban Koda!!!

If she's concerned about the corruption and problems with the current organization, and she's heard most of the claims refuting the version of the history being taught but still feels like it's valuable to go to church, then the C of C would definitely be a good option to explore.

On the one hand, they will definitely respect and understand your/her Mormon heritage and traditions. At the same time, though, the organization is quite open and transparent -- and serious questioning and discussion of historical and other issues is A-OK, not feared and shunned.

And if it's a question of wanting to follow the tradition that's true (as opposed to just attending the church you like), you can make a very good case that these guys are the ones who are the true heirs to the Restoration.

lol! The polygamist guy I dated was single. I didn't know he had eight mothers and forty brothers and sisters until he told me after months and months of dating. It grossed me out, but that's not the reason I dumped him. He was a chump in other ways, with ridiculous ideas about a womans place.

Oh yeah, I changed my USA in UK blog to Thought Note Chronicles because I got hacked. New link :)
