Have I ever mentioned how much I love trains?

And to think I was impressed by a silly little thing like free Internet on the train from Paris to Belgium. On my way back from my trip to Italy, they had something I never expected to see in a train: A playground!

Yep, a slide -- and if you look to the left, you can see the head of the dinosaur-shaped jungle-gym

And built-in dinosaur 'Memory'! Who'd've guessed?

update:

I was showing this to Léo, and asked him what it was a picture of.

Léo: It's a playground in a train.

me: A playground in a train! Isn't that crazy?

Léo: It's not crazy. It's normal.

That is honestly SO brilliant. Kids can get so antsy during tranport (may spoil! Keep cool at all times!), and this is great for parents, for kids, AND for the other passengers who won't have to listen to the whining. Awesome.

Hey Rebecca!!!

I know -- it is totally a win-win situation for all involved! All of the families with antsy kids naturally gravitiate towards this special car and hang out with each other, and the other folks are left in peace. :D

Was that in Germany, because I saw one on the DB long haul trains, although it was not as cool as this one?

I too love trains. So smooth and quiet, very relaxing (more leg room form my 6'2" frame than a jet) and what a bargain! The last time I used one was to travel about 600 to Tucson to see my son - $38 one way!

Orson Scott Card exults over how fantastic the trains in Japan are. He's absolutely right. I really miss being able to totally dispense with owning a car.

If only OSC weren't such a vitriolic hater of equality and human rights, I might care what he had to say on other topics.

Hey Sabayon!!!

Nope, this was a Swiss train.

Hey John!!!

I know! Little things like the extra legroom, being able to walk around whenever you feel like it, not having to come two hours early to go through security, etc., make the train so much more pleasant than flying!!!

Hey Eugene!!!

So true!!! I love being able to go without a car!

Hey Craig!!!

True, it's hard to read OSC on an innocuous subject after reading some other nonsense he's written...

You're entirely right, kɹeɪ̯ɡ̊. It's never a good idea to entertain the opinions of people you disagree with. It just screws up that whole demonization thing.

Hey Mike!!!

Yeah, the trains in Europe are fantastic!!! I hope the U.S. will soon start to improve its rail system as well.
