Breaking my eight-and-a-half-year vow...

Well, not exactly, but if you follow my blog, you'll know immediately what is wrong with this picture (Hint: see here and here):

(Hint #2: it's not the fMh t-shirt)

One time when my kids were enrolled in an activity that was really, really inconvenient to reach via public transportation, the lady there asked me "Why don't you and your husband buy a small used car?"

"Heresy!" thought I. "That's like saying to a vegetarian 'There's no vegetarian option on the menu, so why don't you just order the meat...'"

Well, no more. For this six-month stint in the U.S., some of our specific constraints prevent us from working out a car-free strategy. Anyway, it's only temporary. And at least I picked the most fuel-efficient option on the menu!

It's really unfortunate that the U.S. doesn't have better public transportation. When gas prices were really high, I was hopeful that mass transit options would increase. (My state is sadly 48 or 49th in the nation for viable mass transit, unfortunately).

I still am holding out hope and writing congresspeople, however.

Hey Aerin!!!

Wow, that's too bad.

The sad part is that every time gas prices go down a little, people start buying bigger cars again (or at least that's what the salesman at the Honda dealer said).

So to imagine that you're going to get traction on long-term investment like public transportation? Good luck!

Aw, it's cute. Does it have a name?

Hey UFPC!!!

I'll admit I took the cuteness factor into consideration when selecting this model. ;^)

I didn't think to name it though. Maybe I'll ask my kids if they're like to give it a name...

I have to admit, that if I weren't a terrible driver and could afford it, I might be getting a car now. I can get pretty much everywhere I want with public transit, but sometimes it takes a stupid amount of time.
At least you got a cute one! You really should name it though. It helps when you need to yell at it.

Welcome to life in a small town. Public transportation *isn't* an option here.
