Lazy postin'

A lot of bloggers try to stick to some crazy rule like post every single day, or at least try to post a few times per week. Unfortunately, I have too many blogs for that (not to mention a job and a family), so I have to spread 'em around.

So I just put up a couple of light discussions on other blogs, one mocking Chris Buttars (if you don't know who that is, don't worry -- I shouldn't, yet I do), and one about criticizing the parenting skills of random strangers. Enjoy!

Don't feel bad, Chanson. I used to have another blog which was more open...for my life in general (so, I had more material to draw from, right?!) but...I was so lazy with that!

I can't say I posted once a week regularly. And I can't say I had a family and job keeping me back. Or any other blog commitments.

So as far as I'm concerned...you're way ahead of the game! interesting links about promotion, though...I'll have to get started on that.

Hey Irresistible (Dis)grace!!!

You mean VJack's article on tips for new atheist bloggers? He's got some good suggestions. Of course, he specifically states that people will disagree with him on the "post every day" tip, and he's right -- I do disagree. I think that posting every day can be a good strategy, but it depends on what style blog you're going for: If your blog is more like a newspaper, then of course you should post every day, but if you see your blog more like a magazine, it's better to post only every few days.

I'd add a different tip: it helps to write posts for other blogs than your own personal blog. On that note, are you planning an article for Main Street Plaza? Just say the word. ;^)

I could write something for Main Street Plaza, but I'm still not quite sure exactly what the *feel* is...I wouldn't want to write something that doesn't match the personality of the site; you know what I'm saying?

Well, we can continue this discussion via email if you like (chanson dot exmormon at gmail dot com), but for the *feel*, here's what I recently told another new author:

Our goal at MSP is civil, constructive (maybe even friendly) dialog across the belief spectrum. We try to lean away from posting too many "why Mormon beliefs are false" posts -- mostly because that's been done to death elsewhere hence isn't our niche. We sort of take it as a given that people disagree on the truth claims, and instead discuss other topics of interest to "cultural Mormons". That said, believers often come around and challenge the MSP regulars on questions of belief in God, and we don't shy away from answering in very direct (though civil) terms.

I'd add that I've read all of your posts at Irresistible (Dis)Grace, and they already match MSP's tone quite well.

Oy, do I ever love a good mocking of Buttars. That sounds rather mean, but in his case I make an exception.

I want to post every day or at least every other, but it never stays that way for long.

Oh, and I think it's funny that my blog is linked under,

"Other LDS-Interest Blogs
(I can't tell if these are pro or anti, so really watch your step here!!!)"

I can safely say it's rather "anti". Very safely in fact.

Ugh. I'm a Republican and I agree that the "War on Christmas" people are just making idiots of themselves. You're right: they're every bit as uptight and overly sensitive as they claim liberals are.

(I've actually been posting almost every day, but that's mostly because a lot of what's on my blog is stuff that was already written awhile ago, mostly for school.)

Hey Craig!!!

About your spot on my blogroll:

Way back when I first encountered your blog, you seemed to be writing from a position of faithful dissent. I'd like to move you to Outer Blogness, but the service I'm using (blogrolling) has been down for months, so I can't make any updates. I hope they fix it soon, otherwise I'll have to find something else...

Hey E.L. Fay!!!

So much of the "culture wars" is about competing worldviews trying to dominate the public discourse. In the case of the Religious Right, it seems like they've lost the mainstream, which means their position is increasingly dominated by extremists, hence is becoming increasingly shrill and irrational...

Wow, down for months - that's pretty lame.

Yeah, at the time when you first encountered my blog I was probably a little more positively inclined - now, not so much.

Just curious, do you use livejournal?

Hey Craig!!!

Yeah, I hope they fix it soon. Then I'll a major link cleanup.

Hey Anonymous!!!

No, I don't use Livejournal, but lots of people in Outer Blogness do.
